About SMI

Shape Modeling International (SMI) is a premier forum for research on digital shapes, encompassing their representation, understanding, creation, interaction, and communication. The conference brings together researchers, developers, students, and practitioners from geometric modeling, computer graphics, CAD, AI, and related disciplines. SMI aims to advance the mathematical foundations, computational methods, and innovative systems that enable humans and machines to model, analyze, interpret, generate, and reason about shape representations and designs. Conference proceedings are published in a Special Issue of Computers & Graphics Journal, Elsevier. Papers presenting original research are sought in all areas of shape modeling and its applications.

When and Where

SMI 2027 will be held as part of the 4th International Geometry Summit (IGS 2027) in Singapore, June 21-25, 2027. It will be co-located with the Symposium on Geometry Processing (SGP), Solid and Physical Modeling (SPM), Geometric Modeling and Processing (GMP), and the SIAM Conference on Geometric Design (SIAM GD).

Regular Research Papers

Authors are invited to submit original and unpublished research papers through the regular SMI submission process. Submissions will undergo a rigorous double-blind peer-review process conducted by the Technical Papers Committee and must not be simultaneously submitted elsewhere.

Submissions should be formatted according to the style guidelines for the Computers & Graphics Journal and should not exceed 12 pages, including figures and references. We strongly recommend using the LaTeX template to format your paper. We also accept papers formatted by MS Word according to the style guidelines for Computers & Graphics. The file must be exported to a PDF file for the first round of submission. For format details, please refer to Computers & Graphics Guide for Authors.

Accepted papers will be published in a Special Issue of Computers & Graphics (C&G), Elsevier and presented at SMI 2027. SMI also participates in the Replicability Stamp Initiative, which recognizes complete open-source implementations and is a prerequisite for Best Paper Award nomination.

Publication and Presentation Opportunities

Regular Research Papers

Original research submitted through the SMI conference process. Accepted papers appear in the Computers & Graphics Special Issue and are presented at SMI 2027.

Year-Round Journal Track

Papers may be submitted throughout the year to the Shape Modeling Section of Computers & Graphics. Papers completing review and publication in time will be invited for presentation at SMI 2027. Early submission is strongly encouraged.

Survey and State-of-the-Art Papers

High-quality surveys on important or emerging topics are particularly welcome through the Shape Modeling Section of Computers & Graphics. Submit ideally before January 2027 to allow for the journal review cycle. Accepted surveys will receive an extended 45-minute presentation.
